Cheam & Sutton Rotary Club May Fair

W A Truelove & Son Ltd were delighted to be one of the 50 local businesses that took part in the Cheam & Sutton Rotary Club May Fair this bank holiday weekend. The fair is an annual event, started in 1977, that attracts about 6,000 visitors each year and features attractions and activities including a children’s funfair and mini go-karts. It is always a fun day out for locals and is organised by the rotary club in tandem with many other community groups and charities.

Our staff members made and donated cakes and other sweet treats for a cake stall this year which was manned by our business development manager, Michelle. We are pleased to announce that our efforts raised £166.25!

The money raised by the 2017 Cheam & Sutton Rotary Club May Fair will go to the Royal Marsden Play Specialists and The Sutton Mental Health Foundation. Further information about these valuable causes can be found by following the links below.

Anyone who made a donation before Friday 6th November will have had their name printed in a special commemorative brochure and their memory will be illuminated on the Tree of Light. Names of loved ones will also be placed in the book of remembrance in the Hospice Chapel. Following the recent opening of our new premises in Worcester Park we held a dedication service for the branch’s two new chapels of rest on Wednesday 18th November.

The service was led by the Reverend Kevin Scott of St. John the Baptist Church, Old Malden.  The premises were blessed by Reverend Scott, Father Kevan Hayden from St. Matthias Roman Catholic Church, Worcester Park, the Reverend Steph Nadarajah and the Reverend Paul Timmis from Christ Church with St. Philip, Worcester Park and the Reverend Peter Flint from the United Reformed Church, New Malden.  The directors and staff of WA Truelove & Son Ltd were delighted to welcome all of them to the new chapels of rest and to attend the dedication service.

Worcester Park is our newest branch, having opened on 22nd June 2015 and having been officially opened on 30th October.  It is run by Sarah Love, who is a qualified funeral arranger, having been awarded her Certificate in Funeral Arranging and Administration (Cert.FAA) by the London Association of Funeral Directors.  Sarah has been with WA Truelove & Son Ltd since April 2014, and served as a Relief Manager until June 2015, when she was promoted to run this new branch.  Sarah is quite new to the funeral industry, having previously been a teaching assistant for many years at a primary school in Raynes Park.  When her father died she decided that she wanted to work in the funeral profession so that she could help the loved ones of people who had passed away.

You can find our newest branch next door to Tesco at 350-352 Malden Road, Worcester Park, KT4 7NW.  The triple fronted shop has been converted into a comfortable funeral home with full facilities including air conditioning and client parking at the rear of the property.

Truelove’s staff awarded certificates

Two staff members from WA Truelove & Son Ltd were proud to receive their Certificates in Funeral Arranging and Administration (Cert.FAA) at the recent half yearly meeting of the London Association of Funeral Directors.  The Autumn General Meeting took place on Thursday 12th November at the Park Tower Hotel in Knightsbridge.

Our Administration Manager, Jenny Tapping, and the manager of our new Worcester Park branch, Sarah Love, both received their certificates from the President of the Association, John Lodge, and former President Sarah Farrow.  Both Jenny and Sarah passed the qualification with credit and as a result are now qualified funeral arrangers.

Jenny (top photograph) was born in Dunedin, New Zealand, where she started her career as a seamstress, working in a bridal shop.  She came to the UK at the age of twenty, where she met her husband Alan, who she married in 1990.  Before working for WA Truelove & Son Ltd, Jenny worked for Merton Council for twenty-one years.  Initially she started on a six month contract booking children’s holiday activities before being offered a full time position booking swimming lessons and letting out allotments.  In 2000, she was promoted to the position of Cemetery Administrator, attending to the four Merton Cemeteries.  She took voluntary redundancy in 2010, wanting a career change, and joined WA Truelove & Son Ltd as a Funeral Arranger at our Cheam Branch.  Jenny was promoted to be Administration Manager at Head Office in July 2014.

For many years Sarah was a teaching assistant at a primary school in Raynes Park.  She decided to change career following the death of her father, wanting to help other people who had also suffered a loss, but waited until her children were more grown up and independent before doing so.  She joined WA Truelove & Son in April last year, initially serving as a Relief Manager, before being promoted to run her own branch in June of this year.

Representatives from WA Truelove & Son Ltd attended the half yearly meeting, where certificates were presented to Jenny, Sarah and 12 other students.  The well-attended meeting welcomed the NAFD President William Millar and attendees enjoyed a convivial dinner following the meeting.  The London Association of Funeral Directors (LAFD) is an area association of the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD), the pre-eminent trade association in the UK for the funeral profession representing over 80% of all funeral directors in the country, including WA Truelove & Son Ltd.  LAFD represents businesses in London and the Home Counties with about 500 branches, and membership is automatically granted to members of NAFD within London, Surrey and some adjoining areas.
